About us

Tk Open Systems is an embedded Linux and microprocessor consulting company established in 1996, located in Jerusalem and in Yokneam, Israel.  We write board support packages (BSP’s) for new embedded Linux designs, build custom Linux kernels and device trees to solve specific problems, and do board bring-ups. 

We also build custom root filesystems using Buildroot, Yocto and Docker. We have extensive experience with ARM 32 and 64 bit architectures as well as experience with Intel architectures.  Recent projects we have completed include boards using Nvidia Tegra K1, NXP i.MX6/7/8, Marvell Armada 38x, Allwinner and Rockchip SoC’s. Tk Open Systems offers support services for Linux and Open Source software. We incorporated in January 1996. Our main office is located in the Talpiot industrial area in the southern part of Jerusalem. We have one subsidiary office in the Har HaHotsvim industrial area in the northern area of Jerusalem. i.MX8 SoM Bring-Up Project Completed For SolidRun

TkOS engineer Baruch Siach recently completed the bring-up for SolidRun’s i.MX8M based system-on-module (SOM) products that are based on NXP’s latest i.MX8M system-on-chip (SoC) that offers a range of features for embedded and IoT multimedia solutions. 4K UltraHD + HDR, 20 audio channels and Dolby Vision. This project included modifications to the U-Boot bootloader and the mainline Linux kernel. The project was completed with minimal time and effort thanks to support from SolidRun’s excellent hardware design team.

MTP Linux Gadget Project Completed

In November 2017 we completed a Linux kernel and root filesystem for the Beagleboard Black for an Israeli startup firm in the intelligent garment sector.
The gadget allows Windows, Android or Linux devices to browse the files on the gadget, even while the gadget might be using those same files.

TkOS Announces Encrypted Media Solution

TkOS Announces Encrypted Media Solution using Freescale’s High Assurance Boot (HABv4) encryption and authentication capabilities to provide fully encrypted boot media for embedded platforms using Freescale’s i.MX system-on-chips (SoC’s). With this solution, you can securely encrypt the boot loader and the entire operating system on an embedded device. The solution can also be configured to provide protection against booting unauthorized operating system images and updates. Tk Open Systems developed the Encrypted Media Solution with the assistance of Freescale who provided access to proprietary information regarding HABv4. Using Tk Open System’s Encrypted Media Solution allows you to distribute application updates over the Internet, with the highest level of assurance that the media will not be decrypted.

Armada 385 Board Bring-Up Project Completed

TkOS has successfully completed a board bring-up project for a leading supplier of industrial networking equipment.

The board is a customer-designed carrier using a SolidRun A38x system-on-module (SoM). This project involved building a mainline Linux kernel for the Armada 385 and writing a custom device tree blob to match the specifics of the carrier board.

Serial IP Gateway Project Completed

TkOS has recently completed an IP to serial line gateway project for a customer in the aerospace sector.

The gateway uses a tailored RedHat Enterprise OS and includes a Web-based UI written in NodeJS for configuration. Extensive error reporting and traffic logging capabilities were provided. The system is protected with a firewalld-based firewall.

Arduino Mega 2560 Project Completed

In August 2018, an completed an industrial controller project for a start-up firm in the electronics assembly automation market. The project includes a serial command line, multiple GPIO interrupts and multiple GPIO outputs controlling power supplies, an industrial laser and stepper motors.
